FAQ
What is your art about?
I create invisible art. Art about the most important things in life, the things we normally don’t see.
What do you mean?
Love, happiness, anger, fear, and hope are invisible. I try to make them visible.
So, is your art very visual?
That’s the wrong question. Everything is visual. 90% of what we absorb is visual. But there’s something that comes before the visual. Before painting. Before writing. Even before language. The idea. My goal is to convey ideas.
What are the “Four Seasons”?
Emotions, intuition, then dreams, and finally, the wake-up call. As a child, I was completely driven by emotions. In art school, I created things based on intuition, worked on what I liked, and tried to figure out who I really was. Then, I started dreaming. That meant working less and thinking more. Sometimes, I literally dream of an idea. Then I wake up, and the process starts all over again.
How do you make something invisible visible?
For this, I turn to our ancestors: first, there was the idea, then it was depicted on a wall, and at some point, they gave the image a name. Later, they learned how to write this word down. That’s how I approach my work. (To create invisible art, I follow my so-called Cycle of Creativity.)
What is the “Circle of Creativity”?
The artist creates, the viewer perceives. Without collaboration with the viewer, creativity cannot exist. For magic to happen, space must first be created. Then, at the right time, I bring the right team together to take the project to a new level—so that it doesn’t just become as good as the artist envisioned but far exceeds expectations.
Why do you use the word “Download”?
I believe that ideas are available to everyone, but they are invisible. To make them visible, they must be processed by an artist. The artist captures the idea and then “downloads” it in a form that makes it accessible to everyone. Bits and bytes are also invisible, but through our technological language, such terms have become understandable. They exist. I use the term “Download” because it describes this process.
What does 61.2 cm² mean?
During a Chilean mining accident in 2010, all miners were able to return safely through a specially designed capsule that fit through a 53 cm² opening. That was the space granted to their humanity. This made me reflect on my own human space. A specific value came to me in a dream, and I was satisfied with it. I decided that 61.2 cm² represents my human space. The 61.2 cm² motif also appears in my other works, often hidden.
